Under-13 Football – Scottish Cup Semi Final

Good luck to the Under-13 Football team who take on St Andrew’s High (Coatbridge) at Cumnock in the National Trophy semi-final tonight.

They received good news last week when it was agreed that they would share the Regional League title with Stranraer Academy who unfortunately were unable to complete their fixtures.

The league table is as follows:

Dumfries and Galloway Large Schools’ U13 League (at 05.05.09)

Lockerbie Academy also take on Stranraer in the Regional Cup Final and have a fixture against Holy Cross (Hamilton) in the South-West Regional Championship.

In the Scottish Cup Lockerbie have had an exciting run:

2nd Round 4 v 1 home to Calder Glen High (EK)
3rd Round 5 v 0 away to Stranraer Academy
4th Round 6 v 2 home to St Andrews & St Brides (EK)
5th Round 8 v 4 away to Fraserburgh Academy (after extra time)
Quarter Final 2 v 1 home to Port Lethan Academy

So the team has already had a great season and are very excited about their game tonight.

Operation Friendship

Many pupils have benefited over the years due to our link with ‘Operation Friendship’ which operated exchanges with the United States.

The local group have decided to call it a day and have very generously donated their balance of funds to the school.

Over £1000 will be distributed equally to supporting future US trips from the school, our Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and our Celebration of Achievement.

Our thanks go to Operation Friendship for this funding and for our successful partnership over the years.

House Champions 2008/09

This years House Champions are Milk House led by House Captains – Nicola Shortreed and Craig Prater. The overall scores were:

Senior Pentathalon Results

Both the girls and boys events were keenly contested in last weeks senior pentathlon. No school records were broken but the boys javelin and high jump events cam close!

Girls results Winner Jessie Liddon (winning 4 out of the 5 events)
Runner up Hannah Fleming

Boys results Winner Peter Johnstone (15 points)
Runner up Jack Copeland (14 points)

Well done to all participants who make both competitions interesting and sportingly competitive.

S1/2 Baking Club

A new club has started up on a Tuesday after school. The S1/2 Baking Club has proved to be popular and some staff have also come along to the club to practise their culinary skills. The members attending have had to be limited to 15.

Additional Inservice Days/Pupil Holidays

The Scottish Government has allocated three extra non-pupil days to help meet the demands of implementation of ‘A Curriculum for Excellence’. Dumfries and Galloway has allocated these days as follows:- 1 June 2009, 18 August 2009, 25 August 2010.

If our new school stays on schedule for completion, we should be ready to occupy the new buildings sometime around May/June 2010. This will mean an exceptional closure to pupils of up to 5 days around that time. Firm dates will be given as soon as practicable, but we felt it important to indicate this to you as early as possible. The Council is examining possibilities of offering free leisure facilities during these exceptional closure days
