Annual Schools Competition 2008
Lockerbie Academy Wins Overall Team Competition

Lockerbie Academy third year pupils won the Annual Schools Competition 2008 organised by Dumfries and Galloway College. 12 schools and 300 pupils participated in the event, the highest number of participants, and this was the last competition to be held in the present Heathhall campus.

Lockerbie’s team of 26 pupils took part in ten categories – Digital Photography, Front Page Magazine, It’s Good to Network, Wiring a Household Circuit, Construction Challenge, Avant Garde, Beauty Oscars, Dragons Den and Paper Hanging.

Slavko Fedorec and Craig Scott won the Paper Hanging event and second places were achieved by Kathryn Woodman, Natalie Thomson, Ashleigh White and Kris Robson (Front Page Magazine); Megan Martin and Fergus Barrie (Digital Photography); Billy Craig, Jessica Campbell, Steven Gray and Jessie Liddon (Wiring a Household Circuit).

The school won a trophy and a £100 cheque and a couple of team members summed up their day:

“Today was brilliant. I would recommend that Lockerbie Academy enters it next year as it is a great experience. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 10 because it is so much fun. I have learnt more about how magazines are printed and I overall enjoyed the experience.” (Ashleigh White)

“I really enjoyed today – not just because we won. I learned a lot from the instructors which helped us to succeed.

I would strongly encourage 3rd years in the future to enter the competitions. When the best school was announced, none of us thought we would win – but we did!” (Steven Gray)
