Fairtrade Fortnight

This has been Fairtrade Fortnight and various activities have been organised as follows:

There will be a Yellow Day to highlight Fairtrade Fortnight on 6 March. Money raised will be split between school funds and a charity. Staff will nominate a charity they would like money donated to since Fairtrade itself is not a charity.

A Banana Farmer – Comelius Lynch is talking to S4 Geography pupils on Fairtrade Bananas on 6 March, Period 1.

The kitchen is making cakes and puddings with bananas on 6 March.

There is a quiz which is being prepared by Tom McMinn which will be distributed to register classes – finding out how much pupils are now aware of Fairtrade and products.

There will be Fairtrade chocolate for sale on Friday. Pupils will go round classes during Social Education.

Craig Prater and Vicky Henderson have put together Fairtrade notice boards.

Pupils are learning about Fairtrade in lessons in ICT. Art, RE, Modern Studies, Geography and Lifeskills.
Lockerbie Academy hope to become a Fairtrade school during the fortnight and hopefully, Mr Herbert, Mrs Cotter, Miss Galligan and some pupils will sign the Lockerbie Academy Fairtrade Policy and then all evidence will be uploaded to the Fairtrade organisation.

Thanks to everyone for their support of Fairtrade.

How to be safe on the Internet

Two weeks ago Mr Park’s Social Education class 1H prepared a poster to highlight the need to make pupils aware of the dangers of using the internet. One example of class work has been selected for this column.

1. Never give out your real name in a Chat room. Always use your nick-name.
2. Never talk to strangers. If you do they could put viruses on your computer.
3. If you get cyber-bullied tell the local police to track them down or tell your parents.
4. Never tell anybody where you stay or give out personal details about you, friends and family members.
5. Never give out the following:

  • Your name

  • Where you live

  • What school you go to

  • And phone numbers!!
