Regional Athletics Success
On Thursday 17th of June a team of students from Lockerbie
Academy travelled to the David Keswick Centre to participate in
the Dumfries and Galloway school regional athletics championships.
The weather was fantastic throughout the day and all of the pupils
who attended performed very well.
Results - Danielle Beattie, S3 girls 800m Regional Champion.
Daniel Nordon, S4, 5, 6 boys Shot Putt Regional Champion. Jacqueline
Pringle 3rd place, S3 girls 75 m hurdles, 2nd place S3 girls long
jump
Emma Jackson, 2nd place
Well done to all who took part.
Lockerbie Academy World Cup Final
For the last two weeks S1 and S2 pupils have been using the new
MUGA to play their own World Cup seven-a-side competition. To
add realism Cameron Farish supplied the brand new World Cup ball.
After the league sections the semi-finals were decided with two
clear victories:
Argentina 1 v 4 Spain
Brazil 0 v 3 South Africa
The final was a cracking match watched by a large crowd. Spain
took an early lead through Robbie Collins and held out until the
last minute when a Conor Graham free kick drew an equaliser for
South Africa. In the penalty shoot out Spain won 3-2 with Lee
Sproat saving the final South African penalty.
Zak Caldwell received the trophy from Mr Dickson and medals were
presented to Zak, Robbie Carter, Robbie Collins, Robert McGregor,
Lee Sproat, Craig Murray, Baillie Armstrong and Fraser Kennedy.
Hugh Hammond won a medal for goal of the competition and Conor
Graham won player of the competition.
P7 Induction Week
Pupils from the Lockerbie Academy Cluster Primaries enjoyed their
induction week last week, following their new S1 timetable and
being supported by their S6 buddies. On Wednesday evening parents
were invited to the school and enjoyed the information given and
a tour of the new school.
Third Year Rural Skills
The new third year Rural Skills class visited Hetland Hall Garden
Centre. They had various tasks to complete but the staff were
also able to purchase materials for the new course as well as
plants for the open air Art classroom.
Sixth Year Activity Day – Carlingwark, Castle Douglas
All the sixth year students went to Carlingwark for a team building
day. The Outdoor Education staff led by Alex Lumsden provided
a full variety of interesting team building tasks on land and
water. This is all part of the plans for delivering team building
and leadership skills which includes selection of Head Boy/Girl,
Deputes, House Captains and prefects and their team leaders.
Fishing Club
A coarse fishing day at Brooms Fishery Annan took place on Saturday
26 June. This was for Beginners and Intermediate Rods and bait
was provided. Two professional anglers instructed throughout the
day. There will be a follow up club to join if pupils enjoy the
experience.
Sailing
Dumfries and Galloway Schools
Sailing Regatta took place on Friday in perfect sailing conditions;
sunshine and wind.
Lockerbie Academy sailors
were praised for their good behaviour both on and off the water.
Particular praise goes to Finlay Brown, Jamie Baulcombe, Rebekah
Hargreaves and Calum Harvey who took part in the racing for the
first time!
Finlay’s team comprising of
John Beardon and Fergus Barrie were just pipped into Silver Medal
position by Wallace Hall Academy.
Well done to all the sailors.
