Lockerbie Academy Sports
Day
The junior (S1-3)
sports day was held on Wednesday 3rd June at King Edward Park
in warm sunny conditions.
Having completed all field
events the previous week, points were carried forward, resulting
in Dryfe house starting the sports afternoon of track finals in
the lead.
Due to the lay-out of the
300m track (instead of 400m) at King Edward Park, only the 100m
events were open to setting new school records. Despite some very
good running, no 100m records fell.
In the field events, Douglas
Hyslop broke the record in the S3 boys discus and Scott Cochrane
created a new record in the S3 boys shot putt.
At the conclusion of the keenly-contested
track finals the whole school gathered round to congratulate the
individual champions and the winning House. Presentation of trophies
was made by a most popular retiring teacher and colleague, Mr
Jim Rae.

Under-13 Gordon Cup
Regional Cup Final
Lockerbie Academy 6 v 4 Stranraer Academy
Scorers: Dean Smith (3), Sean Dunbar (2), Kieran McCrudden
Man of the match : Kieran McCrudden
In exceptionally hot conditions, the final was played at Lochar
Thistle’s Enterprise Park which was in superb condition. Lockerbie
missed a couple of chances before Dean Smith headed in a pin point
Luke Hammond free-kick. Lockerbie looked on top until Stranraer
hit back with two breakaway goals both of which were just a bit
too easy. Fortunately Dean added a second goal just before half
time after a goal mouth scramble.
After half time Sean Dunbar began to trouble the Stranraer defence
and scored Lockerbie’s third, followed by another precise Dean
Smith finish to give Lockerbie a two-goal cushion. Stranraer rallied
strongly and their centre reacted quickly after a good Robbie
Carter save. Lockerbie went 5-3 ahead with a brilliant Sean Dunbar
finish but again Stranraer closed the gap although Robbie Carter
would normally hope to save this kind of shot. In the last 2 minutes
Lockerbie defended bravely, but Stranraer almost equalized when
a shot came off the post. In the last minute Lockerbie broke away
and Kieran McCrudden ran 40 yards to slip the ball past the goalie…
and celebrations could begin. This time Luke Hammond, who was
taken off injured, was given the honour of lifting the cup.
Thanks go to Lochar Thistle FC for their hospitality, DGSSFA for
their organisation and our vocal travelling support.
