Stock Market Challenge
On
Wednesday 20 January five S3 pupils travelled to Glasgow
to take part in the 2010 Stock Market Challenge Event. The
event, which is sponsored by Careers Scotland and BNP Paribas
Securities Services, gives pupils an opportunity to take
part on the role of stockbrokers buying and selling shares
and foreign exchange on a live trading floor in competition
with 25 other schools.
All five pupils did remarkably well, finishing at the end
of trading with a portfolio worth £35,000. So well
done to the Academy team members; Suzanne Gordon, Christopher
Gray, Jay Bryson, Danielle Beattie and Gemma Waugh. You
did the school proud! |

Peter Pan
On the 16th of December 2009 a group of 64 S1 pupils with 5 senior
and 6 members of staff went to see Peter Pan at the Lyceum Theatre
in Edinburgh. The theatre itself is part modern and part traditional
which, I think, gives it an almost magical feeling.
Peter Pan is a story that I have always enjoyed and to see it
performed on stage was just enchanting. My favourite character
was Tinkerbell the hilarious, babbling fairy. She was played by
Samuel Dutton who changed her whole appearance. Samuel also played
Nana, the nurse dog.
Every scene was based around the bed which I think is really imaginative.
My favourite scene was Peter’s den. I think it was really clever
the way they lifted the bed up to reveal the mossy undergrowth.
I also enjoyed the way the children soared around on harnesses.
It must have been really hard to get all the flips and turns right.
If you like pirates, adventures and mystical beings this is definitely
the play to see. It is a funny and memorable experience for Peter
Pan fans of all ages. Emily

Stakeholder Survey
All parents have
been sent a letter via ‘school bag’ mail informing them of the
above survey which Education and Community Services require us
to conduct every three years.
Parents are requested to complete the survey online if possible
using the web address supplied in the letter. If you have no internet
access, a paper copy is available from the school office on request.
The survey contains twelve questions and should take less than
five minutes to complete. Parents are thanked in advance for their
assistance with this matter.
Haitian Earthquake Appeal
Lockerbie Academy staff and pupils responded well to their traditional
reputation for helping others in need. A giant bottle jar was
placed at the front door of the school and everyone was asked
to contribute any change they might have. A total will be published
next week.

Fleming. Kim Smith, Alice Spence and Kirsten McNay.
Burns’ Assembly
The school held the annual
Burns’ Assembly last Thursday for students in S1/2. Callum Moffat
piped in the participants, Mr Rae addressed the haggis, Liam Rogerson
sang ‘Auld Lang Syne’ (to the original tune), the Fiddle Club
played a selection of Burns’ tunes and Miss Hamilton recited ‘Tae
A Louse’.
All items were very much enjoyed
and the audience clapped enthusiastically.
