Readathon
A group of S1 and S2 students from Lockerbie Academy recently
took part in a Readathon in aid of two children’s charities. Each
student collected sponsorship for reading a number of texts over
a four week period. In total the students raised £240. The
money raised will be donated to The Roald Dahl Foundation and
CLIC Sargent: charities which care for children and young people
in the UK suffering from cancer; Hodgkin’s disease; leukaemia;
epilepsy; blood disorders or acquired brain injury.
Students involved were:
Morven Lockerbie
Samantha Carruthers
Emily Hencher
Sarah Averiss
Zoe Jackson
Zara McHenry
Kelly Wilson
Oliver Wagner
Hayley Scott
Jack Wilson
Adam Wilson
Christmas Card Competition
There was an excellent entry for this year’s Art department Christmas
Card competition. The overall winners were first – Morven Beattie
(1C), second – Liam Rogerson (1C) and third – Liam Joyce (1B).
The three winners received book tokens and Morven’s card was then
reproduced to be this year’s official school card to be sent out
to friends and supporters of the school both locally and internationally.
Eco-School Elections
Congratulations to all the pupils who put themselves forward to
be on Eco-School Committee and made a poster. 50% of the S1 pupils
voted in the election and the following four pupils will join
the committee:
Daniel Blain
Adam Gilmour
Dana McGarrity
Graeme Watson
Morrison’s Vouchers
Last week 1,621 vouchers were sent off. A huge thank you to all
those who helped with this collection both pupils and staff.
The following items were requested:
2 collapsable wheel barrows which we will lend to the janitors
1 weather watch – simplified weather station
1 heated propagator to grow seedlings
1 cloche to protect plants outside
3 pairs of gloves
1 kneeling pad
Goods should arrive in April 2010 ready for our move into the
new school.
A special thanks to Lauren Dorrance (1H) who individually handed
in 450 vouchers.
European Student Conference
In October a group of ten
sixth year students attended the LEAP Comenius Student Conference
in Warsaw. They received their certificates of achievement this
week.
This coincides with plans
for next years conference which will be hosted at Lockerbie Academy
from 27 September to 1 October 2010. Approximately 40 international
students will be coming to Lockerbie and even at this early stage
we are interested in seeking host families from our S4 and S5
year groups. Please contact Mrs Little or Mr Ferrie if you think
you could help.
