Sports Award Night – Annandale & Eskdale Sport and Leisure Trust

On 28th March the Annandale and Eskdale Award Ceremony took place. This was my second Prize giving here but it still didn’t make it any less scary. The Junior award was 3rd to be presented and there was seven of us put forward for the prize of Young Sports Personality of the Year. As it came time for this award to be presented I was certain I would not win, I was extremely nervous. The time finally came for the winner to be announced. My name and Callum Main were awarded joint Young Sports Personality of the Year for the second year running. We got presented with our cups and laughed as we both thought back to last year and got déjà vu. It was a great night with so much sporting talent under one roof and I was extremely happy to be coming home with a prize.

Italian Student Visit

From 16 – 20 April six students and their teacher came from E. De Amicis school in Cuneo, Italy. The Italian school is a long standing partner of Lockerbie Academy, part of the Comenius LEAP project. The Italian party were hosted by fifth and sixth year students and Mrs Little. The purpose of the visit was to work on a language/art project and the Italians enjoyed working with English classes at the Academy as well as having their own Art lesson with Ms Duncan. The students also greatly enjoyed their trips to see “Black Watch” at the SECC, Glasgow and to Edinburgh including trips to Rosslyn Chapel and the Scottish Parliament. Many thanks to our students and their families who hosted so well.

Scottish Eco Schools Launch

Miss Rogerson and three students Connor Mooney, Leigh-Anne Hastings and Julie-Anne Maltman attended the Scottish Eco Schools launch at Hampden. They were able to hear updates from other secondaries as well as play the “Earth Game” where all actions have environmental consequences. No doubt, one of the highlights of the day was observing the urban fox at Mount Florida station as they awaited the train! Wildlife in the city indeed!

Lockerbie Academy will be hoping to achieve the Eco School Silver Award this session.
