DS Smith – Business Management Trip by Lockerbie Pupils

On Friday 14 March 2008, the Higher Business Management class from Lockerbie Academy took a trip to DS Smith Packaging in Lockerbie. The aim of the trip was to see some of our theoretical knowledge in practice within a real business. Within the course, our class learns about production and products, as well as things like quality and stock control, all of which were highlighted in the trip. As well as gaining a wider knowledge and understanding of the DS Smith business itself, we discovered the wide range of products the factory in Lockerbie produces. The trip helped us to realize how a large business keeps their clients happy with the wide range of products they can produce, and how much work can go into things like cereal and chocolate boxes. Our group was taken around the factory and was shown many aspects of the business. Both tour guides explained thoroughly how the business makes sure that their product is of the highest quality. Everyone on the trip found it useful and very informative. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Garry and George again for their time and efforts.

Any parents who have visited the Academy or driven past on the Glasgow Road will have noticed that work has begun in earnest on the new Campus.

At the time of writing, concrete is being poured for the foundations and much groundwork and landscaping has already been achieved.

A Campus Communications Group has been set up to keep everyone informed of the latest developments.

The Academy has a notice board displaying plans, plus ‘photo of the week’ and ‘days to go’ countdown (28 May 2010) to keep pupils and staff up-to-date and involved in the process.

The Contractors (H & J Martin) were happy to be involved in the recent Science rocket project using their sophisticated measuring equipment to calculate how far each rocket travelled.

Taste – Christian Rock Band
