Advice
on How to Stay Safe this Summer
OK
the summer looks as though it’s here at last! I have noticed some
very red shoulders around Lockerbie and red faces in school. Just
a little reminder about looking after yourselves during this time:
WATER and plenty of it please! Make sure you
drink at least a litre whilst at school and have twice this amount
before and after. Dehydration will not help you concentrate in
lessons, take part effectively in sports and will leave you feeling
very tired with no energy.
Cover up with sunscreen - this is advice from
the British Skin Foundation which says:
|
Stay in the shade
between 11 am and 3 pm |
|
Wear sunscreen SPF 15 or above
- use one that provides UV protection |
|
Keep shoulders covered and
wear a hat that protects your face, neck and ears |
|
NEVER let your skin burn |
Adults remember alcohol
and sun are not ‘mixers’, there is a risk that you will
dehydrate more quickly (end up with a massive headache
too)! Protect your children at school particularly the
young ones. All the primary schools have guidelines about
sun care at each school, some even have a baseball cap
as part of the uniform - please ask at the school how
you can help protect your child.
It's transition time again, from P7 –S1 and Nursery to
P1 lots of emotions and excitement. The school staff are
working extremely hard to make these transitions as smooth
as possible, please support them by doing your bit to
encourage your children to ask questions about anything
that is worrying them about a move.
